Chris Neal is a staff photojournalist for the Topeka Capital-Journal in Topeka, Kan. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. Chris began shooting photos while he was a sophomore at Wichita East High School in 2005. In college, his photography career took him across the nation to cover events, including the JUCO National Championship in football, the 2012 NCAA Tournament for the University of Kansas, and appearances by Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. His photos have been featured on CNN (Greensburg, Kan., tornado of May 4, 2007); in The Wichita Eagle, Kansas’ largest newspaper; in the University Daily Kansan, KU’s independent, student-run newspaper; in the El Dorado Times, and several other papers around the nation. In 2009, he was the editor-in-chief of Butler County Community College’s Grizzly Magazine and received several awards, including the 2008 Kansas Association of Collegiate Press Journalist of the Year.
